Statistics Canada predicts Canada’s foreign-born population will increase four times faster than the rest of the population and is expected to double by 2031. Many economists see this as a boon for the economy as Canada's birth rate is declining and baby boomers are retiring. The downside is that immigrants also comprise more than 50 per cent of Canadians under the poverty line.
Many immigrants are highly educated and have the skills needed to fill the jobs baby boomers are leaving behind. Capital News Online reporter Sabina Lam spoke with Don Drummond about what needs to happen for immigrants to be successful in Canada's changing economy.
